We do not deliver blind estimates. Every engagement begins with a comprehensive in-home consultation — no guesswork, no surprises.
Why ParagonCA
Don't hire a contractor who cuts corners behind the tile. Hire the expert who literally wrote the book on waterproofing methodology.
ParagonCA's founder, Antonio Topete Diaz, is the author of the Paragon Standard Remodeling Series — published guides documenting the exact failure patterns behind leaking showers, failed shower pans, and faulty waterproofing. Every project is held to the standard he documented. Not a marketing claim. The actual standard.
“We are not the lowest bid. We are the last contractor you will ever need to hire.”Meet the Team & Our Standard
The six failure patterns below are not rare edge cases. They are the predictable result of improper construction — and they are what we eliminate before a single finish material is selected.
A membrane applied without proper overlap, pre-sloped mortar, or sealed penetrations is not a system — it is a delay. Water moves through grout, around drains, and behind fixtures continuously. The question is only where it ends up.
Risk: Structural rot · Mold · Full rebuild
Tile adhered to standard drywall, improperly gapped backer board, or an unsupported mortar bed will crack and delaminate. No amount of regrouting addresses the underlying movement. The substrate must be correct before the first tile goes down.
Risk: Cracked tile · Delamination · Water intrusion
Drains, supply lines, niches, and fixture backing are each a gap in the waterproofing envelope. When they are not sealed as part of the system, water finds them — and follows the path of least resistance into the framing and subfloor.
Risk: Hidden moisture · Subfloor damage · Mold
A shower floor with insufficient slope holds water after every use. Chronic standing water breaks down grout, saturates the substrate, and creates conditions for mold growth inside the wall cavity — none of which is visible from the outside.
Risk: Chronic moisture · Grout failure · Mold
Grab bar blocking not installed in the framing. Subfloor not assessed before new tile adds weight. Tub deck not properly supported. These are not finish problems — they are structural decisions that determine whether the bathroom holds up for five years or twenty-five.
Risk: Safety hazards · Premature failure
Recaulking over active moisture. Replacing surface tile without addressing what is underneath. These are not repairs — they are postponements. And the longer the underlying problem continues, the more expensive the eventual correct repair becomes.
Risk: Compounding damage · Higher future cost
Every ParagonCA project begins with a structural assessment that identifies these risks before scope is finalized — before a single tile is selected.
Request a Structural AssessmentWe do not deliver blind, rushed estimates. Our comprehensive in-home consultation is the foundation every project is built on.
We plan for perfection before a single line item is priced. Affluent homeowners deserve an expert who understands the full picture — not a contractor who shows up with a clipboard and a number.
Schedule Your Private ConsultationWe accept a limited number of projects each season to ensure every client receives our full attention.
Your Consultation Includes
We evaluate the existing framing, substrate, and waterproofing envelope — not just what is visible on the surface.
We identify every active and latent moisture risk in your existing space before any scope is committed.
We discuss layout, material direction, and finish strategy — aligned to how you actually live in the space.
You receive a documented summary of what we found and exactly what it takes to do it correctly. No surprises after work begins.

“We had a shower that three contractors looked at and none could explain why it kept failing. ParagonCA found the source on the first visit — the liner had never been properly installed. They rebuilt it correctly and documented everything. Two years later, not a single issue.”

Forensic Investigation & Full Rebuild
“I was skeptical about the premium pricing until I watched them work. The substrate preparation alone took longer than my previous contractor spent on the entire job. Now I understand why. This is what a bathroom remodel is supposed to look like.”

Master Bathroom Reconstruction
“We had water damage behind the tile that our first contractor missed entirely. ParagonCA opened the wall, showed us exactly what had been happening for years, and fixed it properly. The finished bathroom is beautiful — but more importantly, it is built correctly.”
